    Wired Network & Wireless Problem

    Hi,

I have a USB wireless adapter that connects my PC to the wireless network.

I also have a Laserjet 4+ with a wired network connection, before I moved house everything was on a wired network so all PC's could use the printer etc.

Since I moved it has not been possible to set up a wired network where the PC is hence using a USB wireless adapter but I can connect the switch and printer upstairs so people can use the printer when my PC is turned on. As the router is downstairs there is no room for the printer there.

The problem I have now is, if I plug a network cable into the PC it automatically tries using that for the internet and my USB wireless adapter is no where to be seen.

How can I plug my wired switch into the PC but still use the USB wireless device for internet access etc?

    Thanks
    Jon

Do you mean the software disables the wireless adapter when you plug in a cable? What brand is the adapter?

you could try opening up the network connections and selecting advanced settings from the advanced menu and then change the order in the top box, not sure if that will do do it though sounds like it should from what it says

Re: Wired Network & Wireless Problem

I was rushing when I wrote the post and should have included more details.

What happens is when the wired network cable is not plugged in, I get the usual wireless icon at the bottom near the clock just like you would expect. As soon as I plug the network cable in, the wireless icon dissapears and the network connected icon appears. But obviously that network isn't going anywhere but to the switch. After I have plugged the network cable in I can no longer access the internet etc as the pc is trying to use the wired network for the internet etc.

    Stupid PC!

    Cheers
    Jon

Re: Wired Network & Wireless Problem

Can you post the output of an "ipconfig" once you have both the wired and wireless networks connected?
