what Nvidia brands allow heatsink removal ?

i know EVGA allow you to remove the heatsink and water cool without killing the warranty, i know BFG allow paste replacement without borking the warranty but they dont seem to be making GTX480's

as tempting as hanging on for the EVGA to come into the UK im tempted to go with another brand for my new project.

so anyone know who allows heatsink removal or am i being a tit and just go with the cheapest card ?

Re: what Nvidia brands allow heatsink removal ?

When I asked BFG about replacing the stock cooler on my GTX280 a little while ago, the answer I received implied that doing anything to the card would void the warranty.

Any "tampering" (defined as any physical or software -firmware- modifications to
the card including, but not limited to, replacing the fan/ heat sync and further
overclocking or underclocking the card) will void your lifetime warranty (which
covers the card for YOUR lifetime, not just the "lifetime of the product").

Do you mind if i ask where you heard about the changing paste info? I am uber keen to cool down this card without running the fan too fast, but don't want to invalidate my lifetime warranty. So no, i don't think you are being a tit, i'll definitely be factoring in the option to change the paste or cooler without voiding the warranty when i next buy a GPU.

I guess it comes down to how confident you are about taking the card apart, and how hard you plan to push it. More stress has got to mean greater risk of needing to RMA.

Just make sure you test it properly before removing the stock heatsink to check it works properly. You wouldn't want to spend ages swapping the heatsink only to find the card is DOA then have to swap everything back and try to RMA it!
