Hey all,
I have just received an SSD and will be installed it tonight.

I was wondering if there is anything I should do once I have Windows installed on it?

Pretty sure I rememebr reading somewhere about turning something off/ on but I can't remember what.

Anyone able to help?

Some people disable defragmentation fully, and there's all sorts of tips about disabling prefetching and the page file.

I wouldn't worry about it. XP doesn't auto-defrag as far as I'm aware, so as long as you don't run it that should be fine. And the others aren't a big deal.

Just be sure to partition the drive during Windows installation, leaving some free space for clean-up purposes. Between 10-20% will improve performance substantially.

For clean up purposes I have a number of external and other internal drives.
Should have mentioned, Win7 xD Anything imparticular to do in Win7?

No, Windows 7 will automatically do any SSD-specific tuning required so nothing required.

I mentioned XP since it was mentioned in your sig rig

Another thing to remember most SSDs could do with a firmware update, before use, (like enabling TRIM on the Intel X25-Ms) its a good idea to do this before you install windows etc because then if anything goes wrong you havent wasted a day install windows etc. Most SSDs come with a bootable CD for updating firmware check the manufacturers website for more details.

Also, the more RAM you have, the bigger the pagefile on the SSD so you might wanna manually set the pagefile. It tends to be 1.5x your RAM so I have 6GB RAM so the pagefile on the SSD is 9GB and seeing as my SSD is only 40GB, I've set the pagefile to 1GB as I don't think 1/4 of my SSD storage should be used as a pagefile.
