Age old audio over HDMI issue.

    Good Day All,

Okay I have (seemingly) a very common issue. I can’t get audio through HDMI.

    The details:

    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H 785G
The culprit (GFX Card): Sapphire HD5570 1GB DDR3 HDMI
Windows XP (yes yes I know why don't I upgrade...)

    Site Note:
Using the onboard 4200 I get audio through HDMI without an issue.

    What I have tried.

    - Installing the card ==> installing drivers.
(Not uninstalling onboard drivers / not disabling onboard GFX / audio).

Result: Video okay, only onboard realtek audio working (through pink green blue)

    - Installing the card ==> installing drivers.
(Uninstalling onboard drivers / disabling onboard GFX / audio).

Result: Video okay, no audio working. Although… in device manager ATI high definition audio shows up (with no issues)…but… everything is greyed out in ‘Sound and Audio Devices’ in the ‘Audio’ tab.

    Drivers I have tried:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...?&lang=English
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/...&GetDown=false

The second set of drivers I only used with the first option, so obviously I will try uninstalling / disabling tonight then use those drivers.

All I can assume is perhaps the new card is picking up the driver for the onboard sound (as I assume its a similar chip both being realtek).

Any help would be appreciated lads.

First thing I'd do is disable the onboard graphics and audio (including HDMI audio) from the BIOS. That done you can check that the PC is actually picking up the right audio device, i.e. the one on the 5570.

Another thing to try is to change the refresh rate of the screen, sounds a bit odd but I can't get audio over HDMI if the refresh rate is 60Hz but dropping it to 59Hz clears it all up!

    How bizarre ...

Yeah nothing is picked up at all when I disable it in the bios. Well I say nothing, in sound and audio devices no devices are shown but in device manager its there clear as day. Might change my Hrtz.

I see you tried installed the realtek drivers. Not audio over HDMI, but I had the same issue with one of my PCs just this week. As soon as I put the Realtek drivers on, it picked up the correct device without issue.

Assume you've disabled the on-board, and then installed the Realtek drivers?

    Yeah tried that no luck....

Can't pin what it could be... at best guess it's conflicting drivers... but still disabling the onboard sound in the bios should resolve that, no?
