Fast antispyware ?
Guys, please recommend me a fast antispyware software.
I used to use Ad-aware 5/6 and scanning was damn fast. Then, from Ad-aware 2007 onwards, it just sucks. Takes 3-4 hrs. to scan!
Tried Spyware Doctor and CounterSpy and both have similar issues , but takes less time than Ad-aware 2007.
Any suggestions?
Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware are worth a look at.
Malwarebytes became the de facto malware scanner a year or two ago.
"Quick Scan" can take anything from 1 minute to 20 minutes+ depending on OS age and the amount of crap installed. On my 7-month-old Win7 SSD install with a hefty number of apps installed, a Quick Scan takes 2 minutes 5 seconds. "Quick Scan" scans all known places where malware autostarts and often resides - known registry keys & folder, %temp%, startup items etc. "Quick Scan" is, 99.9% of the time, the only level of scan which is needed when a PC is suspected of having malware.
"Full Scan" scans everything and can take a very long time.
The paid-for version of Malwarebytes has a "Flash Scan" option. For me, this takes 22 seconds. This scan only checks currently running processes, memory & auto-start programs, so it can miss some things.
Note that Malwarebytes is just a single one-off cheap lifetime license - it really is worth it. I've bought two. The paid version also has a real-time monitor.
I use spybot, its reasonably fast. Bearing in mind a spyware checker needs to check for something like half a million different spywares, its no wonder it takes time ....

Microsoft Security Essentials. Quick scan is VERY quick (just did one - took ~30s to scan about 100,000 items), real-time protection is great and hardly uses any resources, updates daily automatically.
I don't bother with them anymore, so I agree with Kalniel.
I just use a decent AV solution, which these days should be able to cope with all forms of spyware.

Scanning on SSD's is probably the biggest plus I've seen from my purchase. As with others, Miscrosoft Security Essentials only for me.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Yes, but you can buy a license to have a resident (ie always running) scan running.

^ thats odd, ive just clicked 'download free version' from malwarebytes.org and it took me to download.cnet.org....
tried it a few times and it goes there.
maybe its just that different OS versions are stored on different servers.
but.. majorgeeks is a respectable site, ive downloaded loiads of things through there.
Seems a bit dodge so I went to Download.com and D/Led to desktop. I'll go into safe mode to install and run it.
