Problems with powering up for the first time

    Hi,

I just turned my new PC on for the first time but the trouble I turned it on by pressing the power button on the motherboard as the power button on the case doesn't seem to do anything even though it is plugged in to the motherboard. Also, there is no "beep" when turning it on and the monitor says "no signal" but all connected fans are spinning.

    Please help

    Thank you

Re: Problems with powering up for the first time

Looked like the power buttons, and/or the LEDs were not plugged in correctly on the motherboard. Did you build that new PC or it was a pre-built?

Spinning fan but not signal could suggest either BIOS too old to handle new CPU (if you built it yourself), or someone had been overclocking for you which failed, or the graphics card 6pin/8pin power had not been connected to the card.

A quick clear CMOS should solve any BIOS settings related problems.

Re: Problems with powering up for the first time

check the power button is hooked up to the correct pins, then test the switch is clocing the contact when pressed. as for the power up and fans, take everything off and check its all seated ok. failing that take it out the case and try it on a piece of cardboard to rule out a grounding issue.

you have connected up the additional power cable near the cpu socket as well yeh ?

Re: Problems with powering up for the first time

are you sure you have plugged the power button wire from your case to the correct socket?

anyway, have you tried a different psu, even though your fans are spinning a faulty psu can cause this.

is this a new build or an setup and the issue has just occured

lol, just repeated what the other guys said, need to increase my typing speed

have you checked everything is fitted in properly, and as above, you need to make sure the motherboard is not shorting on your case

Yay ok finally turns on! BUT - the mobo screen says...
    CMOS Settings wrong
    CMOS Date/Time Not Set
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue

    What should I do?

It's normal, just configure BIOS settings as normal. If it does it again though the battery may be flat and need replacing or the CLR_CMOS jumper might be in the wrong position.

Re: Problems with powering up for the first time

as watercooled says, press f1 and configure your date and time in the bios.

what did you do to get it working, should share so when people have similar issues they can try what you've done

Re: Problems with powering up for the first time

The problem was that 1 of the cables coming off my PSU wasn't connected to the graphics card! I originally had it plugged in but wasn't working so unpluged a cable that I didn't think was needed but that was before I realised the cpu power port wasn't connected!

    Thank you
