Re: Help needed with upgraded system :(

It was sort of intermittent with the problem, I walked away once and when I came back it was at the bit where it says information updated or something but it never made it that far again. Also it made it to the BIOS setup screen once and again later but it hung and had no cursor. It did however say CPU not recognised at the POST screen. The board has no on-board graphics to try.
What exactly happened to fraz, was his system hanging/rebooting like mine? Also what CPU was he using/what did he do about it?
    Thanks for your help.

it was a new I7 cpu, 980 i think and it wouldnt boot so he brought a 920 that i now own as i was having issues that also turned out to be bios related..

fraz flashed his bios using the 920 and his 980 (or 970/60/50) works fine now.

Ah right. It's a bit stupid having to use another CPU to flash the BIOS, especially when they list the CPU as compatible. I've just read on another forum that someone else if having the same problem with a similar setup so he RMA'd the board and got the company to flash the BIOS with another CPU, I'll see if Scan could do that for me...

Scan charge £10 for the flash iirc.

Is anyone nearby and could lend you a AM3 cpu?

Not that I know of, if they ask me for money to do it I'll just get a refund and go somewhere else, I'm not paying for them holding old stock and not listing revision numbers. I suppose I could ask on here if anyone would lend me one but then I'm not sure the board isn't faulty so I might be wasting my time. It's a real pain in the neck this, when you buy something you just expect it to work, not have to mess about for ages trying to get it sorted!

Yeah you're right they just replied saying it would cost a tenner. I don't suppose any of you have a spare AM3 CPU lying around do you? I don't mind paying postage both ways if you're outside of my area.

scan wont rma and then change it to a refund as it would include there "nothing wrong" charge.i would enquire why they are shipping a board thats 4 revisions old TBH and ask whey they do not have a 1.4 revision, if they cant provide it use the DSR and get a better board.

    personally DSR it

Re: Help needed with upgraded system :(

I phoned them earlier, I was too impatient to wait for email replies, and tech support said its a tenner to get it flashed but I can take it to their shop and get it done for free. I was then put through to sales to ask if they could either check the next model up if the BIOS version was F2 or later and they said they can't guarantee the BIOS version as the stock might be from halfway around the world and taken weeks to arrive in stock but they could flash it before shipping for a tenner. I have no intentions of paying them any more so I'll call into their shop at the weekend if I can't get hold of a CPU to do it myself and I arranged a DSR return on the phone just in case, if it works I'll just keep it. I would normally DSR it either way but I can see this happening again and again no matter what board I buy until stock is refreshed which could take months.
Oh also do you know if there's any difference between for example 1.0 and 1.4 or is it just 1.4 is shipped with a later BIOS?

Update: I took the board into Scan and they flashed it for me free of charge. It's working fine now. Nice one Scan, although I would have liked to receive an up-to-date model in the first place.

Re: Help needed with upgraded system :(

1.4 has the new bios, you can find out from the bios page for theboard as it lists all 4 models. i still would not be 100% happy being sold a rev 1 board. at least its done now, might be worth finding out what changes have been made to need 4 revisions of board incase you have a dog.

at least you were close enough to get it flashed for free, my argument would have been for them to pick it up and swap it for a 1.4 or flash at there expence for selling a outdated version.
