    hard drive problem? OS problem?

i have a server set up with Microsoft windows home server installed

at present it has 2 x Samsung EcoGreen F2 1TB Hard Drives

i've set the options in the BIOS to switch this machine on at 2pm every day & have a scheduled task set to switch it off at midnight

problem is, every few days it doesn't start up properly, the screen displays "NTDETECT failed"

when restarted, it usually starts up fine & has no issues, same is true if it auto-starts properly but becasue this has all my music, photos etc on it, i'm obviously concerned why its doing this.

in general, if i manually start it, it starts up perfectly fine so i'm wondering if starting it automatically like this is in some way casuing the problem

any ideas what i should check first?
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

Re: hard drive problem? OS problem?

I'm thinking its a corruot file issue maybe ?

Might be worth running through a system restore if the server os has it ?

its odd how it works most of the time (and works when manually powered on)

i'm thinking...is it possible the auto=power on isn't giving the HDD time to get spinning?....or am i being mental?

I would say to check Event Viewer to see what sort of error messages are reported at start up.
Have you also checked too see if their is a BIOS update for your computer/motherboard.
