    Vista problems - Help!

My parents have vista on their desktop. Since yesterday, the keyboard is not responding correctly (sometimes it keeps repeating 1 letter whatever you press).

On the menu bar in IE8, it keeps flashing and showing the keyboard shortcut (like it does if you press the alt button).

Any quicklinks on the taskbar, next to the start key, show the shortcut window for the link, and doesn't run the program.

Clicking the start button does bring it up but it then disappears again straight away.

I ran a system restore (eventually) and the same thing happened after the restore.

Any ideas what it could be? Is the vista install borked?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

What's CPU usage like? I assume you've already tried a different keyboard to rule out a stuck ALT key, right?
