PC running like an arthritic worm

PC running like a dog seemed a bit cliched. It's behaving really oddly, couldn't boot earlier, but now I can. Cripplingly slow. Intel Matrix came up and said "New disk device" earlier on. HDTune provides the following information:

Still waiting on a full error scan, it's taking forever.

maybe malware? have you got an upto date virus scanner / Emsisoft Anti-Malware

your disk is dying may be a possibility access time should be a lot lower probably around 10, the flat spot in the middle of the graph is odd

Seems to be a hardware issue to me. The sudden drops seem to be unable to access the disks. Seems like hard disk is dying?

Definitely looking hardware. Also worms cannot get arthritis.

Damn you, getting pernickety about my phrase!

Strangely enough, HDTune error scan came up blank, everything appears to be fine. Done another benchmark, slightly different result - although I'm still not convinced that all is well. Dropping to 2.7 MBps doesn't seem normal.

I'd run the Samsung Diagnostic on that just to be sure, if that doesn't throw anything up it might be worth changing the sata cable, failing that might be time to get the Windows 7 DVD out.
