    No beep - but bootable

    Hi all,

Upgraded my case a few days ago to a Fractal Design R3. Noticed when I was connecting everthing that there was to PC Speaker connecter cable but thought nothing of it.

Noticed today that I get no beep on boot. Things work though (although I've been having trouble with hard drives - but that's another story).

Is the lack of a PC speaker connector cable thingy normal these days? And is that what's preventing me from hearing a beep? If not.. does this mean my MB is on the way out? Maybe that's what been responsible for my HDD issues.

you will only hear a noise if your case has a speaker, if you have no speaker cable, it ma mean there is no speaker on the case.

if you have no issues, then it's not an issue, it's when your does fail you won't be able to diagnose through the post beeps

you can buy a cheapo speaker or use one from an old case and hook it upto your mobo

Re: No beep - but bootable

In the most plain english terms, the beep you are refering to is just to say your computer has posted/booted successfully.

You need not worry at all,you dont really need the beep, you can see via your screen things are fine. And your mobo will be fine.

The little motherbord speaker is for diagnostics,it in no way affects your motherboard performance wise or other.

Re: No beep - but bootable

    Hi all

First post and a bit of a newbie question - sorry!

Does the case need a speaker in it to produce the beep or is it generated by the motherboard itself?

I'm having issues with my system not booting. It isn't beeping, but I don't think it ever has.

    Any thoughts/advice would be good!

    Thanks.

Re: No beep - but bootable

It is generated by a device attached to the motherboard - usually a chip labelled SPEAKER.

your boot problem shouldnt be caused by the lack of sound though, as you said it has never beeped.

Have you tried resetting the bios using the jumper or removing the cmos battery for a couple of hours?
This usually solves bios related boot problems.

beeps can tell you what the problem is. so it would be easier to diagnose the problem.

just buy a mobo speaker, their about £2 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-PC-mother...252a55ffee5d7d
