Monitor turned off but computer was still running

First time it has happened to me. I bought a new hardrive. It came today, so i installed it. Everything went fine, no hiccups. I v been using the computer all day and all of a sudden the monitor turned off with it saying no signal. The computer was still running. I had to restart the computer for the monitor to start working again.

    Any ideas why this happened???

Is it possible than the new drive went in to power save mode and took the monitor out too, or something very similar?

After this happened, upon disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor, do you get a display or not? How is the display connected?

All I did was restart the computer by pressing the restart button on the PC. It hasn't happened to me since, however the computer hasn't been running for more than 5 hours a day. The monitor is connected through DVI.

Re: Monitor turned off but computer was still running

I have read in some places that dust within my PC could be a problem.

Is it just that the monitor loses signal randomly? Take a look at your system temperatures to make sure everything is in check.
