Best place to recruite a PHP developer

I'm hoping some of my fellow Hexites might be of some help here...

Basically I've been runing a business for a couple of years now, and we're looking to expand, which includes employing another PHP developer. Now I've never had to employ anyone in my life, so I'm basically looking for some ideas for the best places to look for a PHP developer...

I know that there are agencies, but if possible I'd like to avoid them as you have to pay a percentage of the persons wage to them.

    So.. any suggestions

Stick it on the job centre plus website thats what the agencies do anyway.

Is there a Uni near by you could contact their careers centre, then you could pick someone up
    on the cheap.

Plenty of scope there to pick up someone cheap for a year (placement), part time staffing/contract out bits of work, or a graduate. Obviously you're not going to get someone with 10 year commercial experience, but you could either get someone cheaper in with potential and train them or they'll be some people who have done reasonable levels (maybe even commercial) of work before and should have a portfolio.
