    Norton Internet Security 2011 Trial

I have purchased NIS 2011 from Pc World and want to install it on relative's pc. Just found out they don't have a cd drive.

Would I be able download a trial version from cnet and then input my serial key from the cd case into the product to turn it into full product?

Have you tried just copying the contents of the CD to a USB drive, copying it to the install PC and running it there?

Throw away NIS, install Microsoft Security Essentials. Ensure Flash is up-to-date, do an initial scan with Malwarebytes & perhaps pay for the cheap one-off lifetime license for resident scanning.

Ideally also install Firefox with AdBlock & NoScript and teach them how to use it. My sister & mother are happy with FF+NoScript+MBAM+MSE and have been malware-free for a few years now.

For a dumb family friend I did need to set up XP with SteadyState because he clicks on everything.

Not sure if the licence agreement allows you to use your serial number for somebody elses installation?

Any, it has the word Norton in it so throw it away and do as suggested by Smargh above.

From what I've read, Norton is much better now and the 'Internet Security' part should make it more useful than plain AV for anyone who clicks without thinking.

Could be wrong but I didn't read it like that - I think he's just saying can he download the exe and use the same key he would have used with the CD.

Which is absloutely nothing to do with what the OP asked for.
I wouldn't personally use MIS either, but by all accounts, the new one is pretty good.

The idea I had in mind didn't seem to work.

Slapped on Avira for them and left it at that.
