Ssd raid

I've never really bothered with this but someone is giving me 2 new 60gb vertex 2 ssd drives and i was thinking to raid them to improve speed, but i dont really have much knowledge about raid. my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 and the drives are oczssd2-2vtxe60g, any information is much appreciated <3

The only way your going to want to raid them is raid 0 (stripping). This means you will end up with a single ~120GB raid volume. If either drive dies, you lose the data on both. So schedule a regular system image backup with windows backup to another drive. At a max of 120GB it won't be too big and if needed your recovery time later will be extremely swift.

You will need to setup the raid volume in the raid config. You probably will need to go into your PC BIOS and enable the RAID mode for your motherboard and then during boot you will get a screen telling you to press something to enter raid setup (CTRL+F is fairly common but it could be anything). Then you will need to create a new raidset and assign your 2 SSDs as RAID 0.

After all that it should be seen as a single new drive.

Enterprise SSDs, certified with your RAID controller, then sure, but otherwise there's no point - they're already fast enough.

Linear performance scaling and substantially increased longevity are 2 things that make it worth it for me, to the point where I'd rather buy 2 smaller drives and raid them instead using the larger drive.

Got 2 M225 Crucial drives in Raid 0. ZERO problems since installing them >12 months ago, and they are only as fast now as the newer Sata 3 versions. No signs of degredation, or any problems DESPITE being only "Fast enough" "consumer" drives.

Make sure you keep any data properly backed up, otherwise I couldn;t recommend doing what you're proposing, any stronger. The OS feels much more responsive and the entire computing experience is improved somewhat significantly.

ok, my friend has now given me the choice of either a oczssd2-2vtx60g or SLD3-25SAT3-60G and i don't know much about ssd's, which one do you guys advise? both drives are new.
