Yeah, until I read that leaving the game AFK like that decreases your rep.

Also, to use SETA you have to be undocked, and if you're scanned it stops SETA.

    1) Point current vessel away from centre of sector
    2) Increase throttle
    3) Engage SETA
    4) ...
    5) Profit!

No more getting scanned Just make sure you have a jumpdrive and enough ecells or you're in for a long flight back! Also in the game options you can set the SETA speedup to 10x rather than the default 6x - get your credits faster! The game doesn't start decreasing your rep until 20mins real time has passed IIRC, so that's 200 mizuras of free credits rather than 120 before rep losses. Pressing J a couple of times every 20 mins (to switch SETA off and on again) should stop rep loss - should be easy enough to automate but I've not checked if this works.

I've spent far too much time playing games in the X series!

Re: Strange video found on my PC

Yeah, I use 10x, thanks to some helpful video tutorials I found. Makes it so much more bearable!

As for doing what you suggested, that sounds great! And I think I'm reasonably high up on the trade ranks, so I guess a small loss during a night's sleep won't be too bad.

Need to set up more automatic trade routes before doing that though, only have 2 manual and 2 automatic so far. Need to find some good sectors for more sector traders. Any tips? Power Circle is doing me well, but can only really have one sector trader there and another manual coming in every now and then nicking some of the energy cells.

Empire's edge is usually the best sector for training traders, put a sector trader in there, when it reaches level10 switch it to a universe trader. Make sure it's got max shields and a jumpdrive or it'll reject the command. Get a smallish fleet of universe traders and watch the money roll in!
They're not cheap to set up (500k for Trade Command Software Mk3), and shields aren't cheap, but the ships can be capped which saves a bit. Cap a ship, eject from yours when nearby and shoot it. You suit has a built in repair laser. Stick a weight on your ctrl key until the ship is at 100% hull

Once you get enough cash to start thinking about building factory complexes take a look at Xadrian. It will calculate what you need to build a self sufficient factory complex. Herron's nebula is a good place for your first factories - plenty of silicon and ore. Nav sats and 1mj shields sell like hotcakes, alternatively get producing high end weapons. A) you can use them once you get bigger ships, B) you can always sell them in equipment docks. Find a dock that doesn't equip a certain weapon type and they'll buy as many as you can give em

Cool, thanks for the advise. I have never capped a ship before, I'll try and find a tutorial on it.

On the repair laser note, I got an easier way. I use my Xbox controller and rest a bottle on the A button.
