Strange video found on my PC

And no, it's not one of "those" kind.

My computer the other day complained that C: was getting low on drive space. I don't use C: for much more than OS, a few basic apps and whatever I download to My Docs. Games and large apps go on D: and media goes on E:, so I thought it was a bit odd.

Today I was doing my usual tidy up of the C: drive, moving stuff I downloaded to C: to other drives if I wanted to keep it and I came across a 17GB video file in my videos library under a folder called "Captured". I played it and it was a muted 2 hour video of a recent WoW session I had. Very odd.

I don't have any video capturing software installed, AFAIK WoW doesn't have a built in way to record video and there's no watermarks identifying what software was used to capture it. I have checked the properties as well and can't see anything relating to what captured it either.

Anyone have any clues?

I think WoW does have a built in video capture mode.

Checked the keybindings, nothing there, no other options for it that I can see either.

You're not using some black magic to run the Mac version are you? Apparently the Mac version has built in video capturing since 2007

Perhaps it's a new addition to the Windows client from a recent update?

100% sure I'm not running the Mac version.

And they haven't mentioned in any updates AFAIK that video capture is now in the PC client.

Still really concerned where the heck this video came from!

I'd be much more disturbed if it was the latter

this sounds bit dodgy... there were rumours of online film trojans for username and password log in, and account hacking in my old game.. Lineage2.. so it's vaguely possible...

i presume you've run a few online virus checks?

google Housecall if not.. just check for safety... incase someone is watching your online gaming

Just a follow up, I think I have found the cause... After just finding another 69GB file which was a 12 hour long video (I left a game running overnight thinking it would earn me lots of money in game, lol) I had another look around on my PC and again couldn't find anything.

However, when looking at MSI Afterburner I noticed it said that display capture was enabled. Fair enough, looking through the settings I found that the minus on the num lock starts video capture! Stupid... Disabled it now!

Hehe, kind of reminds me of something similar I read a few years ago.

Someone had a problem where things were being typed on his PC.

Unplugging from the internet made it stop, but as soon as he reconnected, it began again.

It turned out to be XPs built in speech-to-text system transcribing the internet radio stream.
