Well in your manual there will be details of the headers on the mobo (little jumper-like connectors) that are designed for you to connect front audio ports to. Check in there, it'll tell you where to plug the little pins in!

IIRC if you connnect them up right and jumper them correctly you won't lose speaker sound from the back ports.

I know that should be true of my mobo, but it's not got soundstorm.

Don't you have to put a jumper on something else too?

I'll dig out my manual and have a look...

    No I don't - I have a nice mobo with a crappy chipset.

    It's the Gigabyte GA7VAXP-Ultra

    Quality features, crap (KT400) chipset.

The F-Audio setup is probably similar though, hence the investigation.

OK, what do the jumpers on your connector short?

On mine a jumper shorts front and rear audio right, and another shorts front and rear audio left.

Also check the pinout on the front audio connector you have, and compare it to that on the motherboard.

ok sorry about the tony hart but manuel is encoded so you cant cut and paste lol

anywya word for word this is what the page says

FRONT PANEL AUDIO CONNECTOER(10-1 PIN FP_AUDIO)
there is an interface for the front panel audio cable that allows convinient connection and control of audio devices

by default pins labeled lineout_r/blineout_rand the pins line out_l/blineout_l are shorted with jumper caps remove the caps only when you are connecting the front panel audio cable

right my inbuilt speaker jack on case seems very basic has 2 wires one blue one white one says ear l and the other ear r

i did remove the jumpers and placed these on lineoutr+l but then when i booted had no sound normally with no headphones plugged in

    Mines exactly like that!

Alas, I've not worked out a solution to your problem! Is the pinout on the front audio connector from your case the same?
