    random black screen

    cpu - phenom 965
psu - antec true power new 650w
gpu - msi 6870 overclocked version
    mobo - sabertooth 990fx
    hdd - 500gb

    ram - 8gb corsair vengance

hello im having a problem with my new built PC i keep getting a random black screen when i browse the internet sometimes or i get a black screen as soon as i try to load up a game. I have contacted scan as that's where i bought my bits and they told me to run mem test so i did and it was fine. I then sent my psu and gpu of to them and they said my psu was faulty and the gpu was fine so i got the items back today and you guessed it black screening again. The only way to get of the black screen is restart my PC, When my PC black screens it is still on as my fans are all running also it cant be a monitor problem as it happens on 4 different monitors 2 are brand new. i have run a disk check re installed windows and still the same also my drivers are all up to date i even tried older ones and the same thing happens also the temps are fine my PC doesn't get a chance to overheat as it will black screen within 30mins or as i said as soon as i try to run a game. so now i am lost and don't know what to do i feel i have wasted alot of money as i cant use it

    Re: random black screen

Anyone nearby who you can do a part swap with?

Could I ask what games you are playing; there may be known incompatabilities.

I had a problem with black screens when I tried ot get out of sleep. How are your power saving options? Bios settings okay? Latest bios?

Re: black screening, sometimes blue with verticle lines, sometimes grey

The overall setup looks fine. If you've re-installed W7 and all drivers we're looking at either heat or hardware.
How did you test for temps ?
Those vertical lines usually indicate a GPU crash. Can you check the GPU in another machine, or can swap another GPU into this one ?

well i manged to run fur mark (gpu benchmark test tool) and the temps was fine and the gpu and all of the fans are spiting out cold air so i dont think it can be overheating problems

Re: black screening, sometimes blue with verticle lines, sometimes grey

When you next test though, I reccommend GPUz to keep an eye on GPU temps (free download). It can also log to a text file so that the data is not lost if the machine crashes. And RealTemp (free download) to keep an eye on the CPU temperature.

Black screens do sound like a power issue still though. I'd go through and check that all cables and components are completely seated, and in tight. Sometimes these things fix themselves by disassembling, then re-assembling everyhting.

EDIT - Mods, probably best to move this to the Help section ?

    Re: random black screen

See if your mate can test your card.

Asus webpage looks a bit bare tbh; CPU support list and downloads is blank; they should list all the versions of bios numbers.

It could be a number of problems but is probably very simple; it is stressful.

You could try stress testing. Prime for ram and cpu etc. and a GPU stress tester; furmark maybe although this is not so highly rated with newer cards. GPU-Z can log GPU temps to a txt file in the event of a crash and HW monitor can test your systems temps.

Re: black screening, sometimes blue with verticle lines, sometimes grey

i have checked the wires and re seated them so many times. i will re try gpuz i had it on there and tested and it seemed fine i also had cpuz and that was fine too. i dont think it would be a psu problem as i have had 2 now and it still happens.
