    9700 Pro Restart Problem

I have recently installed 9700 pro in my pc and im having quite a big problem with it. When i play a specific game, at certain parts my pc restarts and i have no idea why. I know its not the drivers because iv got the most up to date ones. And im pretty sure its not the game because a few of my mates have it too, even tho they dont have the same g-card. I havent been able to test it on other games as i have no other graphically challenging dx9 games. Please help me, lol

    Thanks

Try 3D Mark 2003 on a loop for about 45 mins, that will certify if your system is stable in 3d games. If so, do a search on ATI's site to see if any incompatibility exists with your game.

If it fails its fault finding time...

Check the chipset drivers, set AGP in Smartgart to 2x (fast writes on), run memtest, prime95?

First of all I'd run Prime95 for a bit to make sure the CPU is fine. I'd also take a look at something like Memtest to make sure that the RAM is fine. After that, I'd check the power supply.

Thanks guys, iv previously run a few stress testing/benchmarks etc and everythings checked out fine, but il give it another go all the same. Its just really bizarre iv never heard of owt like this before. Btw ma psu is a q-tec 400 watt (yes im ashamed, lol) if it is the psu its cant be an actual power size thing cos ma m8 has a 400 watt with a 9600 pro. Ah well, thanks all the same, il give it a go, more ideas welcome, lol

The thing to remember with PSUs is that a 350W decent brand PSU (like Antec) will be much better at its job than a generic 450W PSU (or, even worse, Q-Tec). The most important thing, in my opinion, when buying PSUs, is brand, then the wattage.

You said you have run stress testing/benchmark stuff, try running memtest - the error may be in the top mb range of the ram.

What are your system specs btw?

also: what is this game? If you've stress tested before and got nothing I'd be inclined to suspect there's a conflict going on there.

itll probably be the psu, you mayaswell change it anyway, as itll be near its limit with all that stuff..

A 550w qtec is equal to a decent brand 350-400w. So a 400w qtec is much less than that - probably around 250-350w.

Other thing, make sure "Restart on BSOD" is turned off, that might be your problem.
