    posting problems

    hi there

about 2 weeks ago i got home from work and turned my monitor on to play some game i had left the computer running during the day cause me and my brother share the net connection but when i turned on the monitor i got no picture i tried moving the mouse as i thought it had gone into stand by mode and this still did nothing so i then proceded to reset the pc this is when i noticed that it was refusing to post as i recall it was a hot day too could the heat have affected it.
i also asked a friend of mine who suggested that i check the RAM, Processor and GFX card to see if they had burned out but they seem to be fine and yet it still doesn't post.
Any ideas on how to remedy the situation will be great.

The specs for my pc are:

    Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
    2x Crucial 512Mb DDR RAM
    Western Digital 120Gb Hdd
    Maxtor 120Gb Hdd
Ati Radion 9800 pro GFX card
    USB 2.0 Card
    Liton CD RW
    Liton DVD RW

    thanks
    Gitku

The first thing to do is to take everything out of your computer that isn't required to POST, so you're left with your motherboard, grpaihcs card, RAM and CPU. If it still doesn't POST, try taking the RAM out and turn the computer on. If it doesn't beep at you, then the motherboard has probably gone.

If it does beep at you, if you a spare or friend's PC, then put your RAM and graphics card in their machine. If it boots up with those in the PC, then I'd say its either the motherboard or CPU. The final step would be to test the CPU, but leave that until last since I think its the hardest to take out and put back in. If the other machine boots up with your CPU, then its probably your motherboard.

Also, try using another PSU if you can.

Have you tried testing any of the other components in other machines?
