Question Hey Guys I'm Dumb and need help!

Hey guys so I got a new laptop with core i5 in it and I was told that he had it's own GPU ( intel GPU HD or something) but I also have a AMD radeon hd 7k 2gb and my question is how can I know that my PC is using the AMD gpu instead of the intel one? Because I'm playing games like GTA 4 Deadpool Skyrim without any problems but when I try to play minecraft I get 25-30fps? Can you guys please help me? My laptop is HP ProBook 4540s.

Are you playing Minecraft in a browser?

It works in a browser window, but it is slower.

Go and download the latest Java JRE version (with a 2GB graphics card I expect you have 64 bit windows so 64 bit Java is best), and go to the Mojang website and get the downloadable client.

In your laptop, it will use the Intel GPU automatically to save power, as it is less powerful. To force the AMD GPU, you need to open the Catalyst Control Center, and find the application that you want to use the AMD GPU with (in the case of Minecraft, set javaw.exe in your Java folder to run with it), select the higer performance GPU, and then it will run using the AMD GPU and not the Intel one.

What Joeee353 said about opening minecraft with the higher performance GPU. This will ensure you're using the AMD graphics chip and not the integrated intel hd graphics chip.

ProBook 4540s ... nice. If you've got the "Discrete Graphics" option then that's a Radeon HD 7650M and the lappie should select that in preference to the integrated graphics. So if you're getting that low FPS from Minecraft then there's got to be something wrong with the way you're launching it. Speaking to one of the kids who's a big 'crafter and she says there's two ways to use it - browser and app that needs Java. Had a quick look at according to http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...cated-graphics all you need to do is set it up in Catalyst Control Centre.

Other thing I'd better mention - if you've not reflashed the laptop then it'll have that HP Support Assistant available. Run that and see if there's any new drivers available. I've got a ProBook myself and ran HSA the other day to find I'd got eight updates to apply. So much for the corporate automation that's supposed to handle that automatically.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...
