    XP keeps encrypting my files

Whenever I create a new file it is encrypted by default. I have no idea why XP has started doing this. How do I stop this happening, I dont want encrypted files.

I have XP Pro if this makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance

It is anything I create that is new, e.g. I download a file and it is encrypted, I create a new folder and it is encrypted etc. But my hard disk is not encrypted, well I dont think it is. How do I check?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes the encrypt box is checked on a newly created folder, but no it is not checked on an old folder or file e.g. my documents.

How do I stop this it is really annoying?

Success!! When I create a folder in C:/ it is not encrypted so a file somwhere must be encrypted. Is there a quick way of finding it or making all files unencrypted?

also make shur when it asks you select apply to all folders and sub documents...

Wow thank you so much I now have the hard drive the way I want it!

Do you know if encryption reduces system performance?

    Thanks again for the help!

If you usually download to your desktop it is quite possibly your documents and settings folder, or possibly your My Documents folder, those probably are the most likely culprits.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
