    Processes in task manager

Anyone know of a site that can help me identify just what exact processes I have running?

I've got a fair few here, some of which I'm a bit cautious of, so I want to know what they are and what they do.

And on from that, I may want to stop/remove the programs completely, so anyone know how I do that too?

    Cheers for any help peeps!

once you have googled and if you find spyware, run SpyBot search and destroy and then Ad aware.

Once you have done that, if you are on windows XP, Start >> Run >> msconfig.

Go to the startup tab and uncheck any of the items you do not wish to load on boot.

Apply, reboot, click the check box after boot to say you don't want to run msconfig again, job done.

    Hi,

You can go get a copy of Mike Lin's Startup Contol Panel. This will tell you about all running processes at startup. Very useful, and foc, too.
    http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

    Full instructions on Mike's site.

For startup list and the monitoring of other processes, use Winpatrol. Again, foc version avilable. http://www.winpatrol.com/

Both utilities allow you to choose which items you want -or don't want- starting.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    mariner
