Thief DS sound issues.

I have an Audigy 2ZS. With EAX on when playing thief the sound appears to be normal until I view my map or read a book or something, when returning to the game there is an increase in volume and sounds from the burning of torches to crickets and other things, after a couple of mins the sounds stop. I’m assuming this is what the game should sound like all the time any ideas why it is only working intermittently?

Have you got the latest drivers for the Audigy and got DirectX 9c?

I think I do the pc was built new in late dec04 so you would think so, however the people building my tower could'nt even fit the graphics card properly so... I get connected to the internet next week so I guess I can check for updates then. Is the letter after the DirectX 9 (c) the key to the latest driver?

Not quite, you'd need to go to the manufactures website and download it, if you have xp sp2 then you have directx 9c, just type dxdiag into the run box to confirm

Yes I have DX9c. and the 1.1 Thief patch. Should I re-install the game?

Worth a try but you may have to turn off EAX, I had similar issues using surround sound with doom 3, evey so often sound would stop altogether..Just went back to stero with 4 speakers, still scared thelife out of me at 12am in the dark
