    CD-rom boot problem

Got my lanparty board this morning (KT400A) Plugged it in and it works fine, set boot devices to CDROM, CDROM, HDD0 and sat back to install windows.

Gets to the point where it should boot from CD.......ignores the CD and skips straight to the HDD (which i formatted in my mums PC already so was blank). I then unplugged the HDD and moved the CD IDE to IDE 1 slot on the mobo. Start it up, and it tries to boot from the HDD again and when it didn't find one told me there was a system disc error.

I have tried 3 bootable CD's so thats not the problem.

Any help would be extremly appreciated as i have a project in for monday.

    Ben

Could it be the actual CD-Rom drive?

Disable everything in the boot order, but instead when it starts up, there should be an option to open the boot device prompt (on mine it's F11). This will stop it skipping to another device and force it to give you an error.

Setting the CD-rom drive that contains the disk is the ONLY boot device i leave in there. Try that.

    Something along the lines of

    First boot device : Cd-rom
    Second boot device : none
    Third boot device : none

Also, if it only gives you the option of one cd-rom to boot from, go to something named "CD-rom boot priority/CD-rom boot drive" or similar, and make sure the correct CD-rom is selected.

Clstrphbc_donut, i only have 1 CDROM drive plugged in at the moment. I'm trying to boot Windows XP Pro. I've also tried Norton systemworks and my friends bootable CD and neither of them work either.

apparently after much playing around, my PC is not "ACPI compliant" so it cannot install windows. All options i can find for ACPI in BIOS are set to "Enabled". Guess it looks like a BIOS Flash then

Can you just reset the BIOS defaults Ben?, i would of thought that would enable ACPI again?.

BIOS has been reset around 20 times already jon to no effect .

On the plus side windows is now installing. Took the windows CD and the hdd and put it in mums PC, created a new partition and put the windows setup files on it. Brought it back to my PC, plugged it in and it worked I'm slightly happier

Must go now, have to put mums PC back together and test that it still works

Ok, it was working, until it got to "installing devices" and crashed (the screen said "windows is now more stable than ever" and i laughed).

Flashed the BIOS, no difference. Gonna start over now
