    Home network won't work, help!

A couple of night ago, i left my pc connected to the home network, and then went out to a party and crashed at someone else's place- when i got back the next day it was somehow severed from the network and now won't reconnect (it's been 2 days now)

It claims to have a good signal but when it tries to connect it just gets stuck at the 'Waiting for Network' stage. Also, i noticed that a couple of times when i tried it managed to be sorta connected but the connection was referred to by windows as 'Limited' and as far as i could tell it was useless- didnt assign me an IP and still couldnt access the net :-/

I'm using an 11mb a second WirelessNetwork with a 300ft range (i'm well within this area) There's 2 pcs involved in the network and the one i'm refferring to is not the host.

    What I've tried already:
    Rebooting both PCs (many times)
Reinstalling Networking software on both PCs
Restarting Network Setup Wizard AND using Network Setup Disc
    Disabling both Firewalls

Any other info you might need to solve the problem please ask for, cause i really wanna sort this out

BTW- Possible complication: I reformatted my pc the morning before it lost connectivity, don't know if this might lead to anything..?

Are you going thru ADSL/Broadband? If so, have you tried to reboot DSL/Broadband router?

If you're hooked up via router, then router to DSL/Broadband router, unplug them, and wait about 15-30 seconds, then plug them back in.

I've had this happen once, and that took care of the problem...hth...

Is it possible to test the connection using a wired connection? If that works fine, then you know the fault lies with the wireless part.

You might also want to check for viruses, spyware, etc.

Are you using an access point?? As you said you had rebuilt your computer the morning before the connection stopped working.. Did you have a password/passphrase setup up? WEP or WPA??

Has someone enabled MAC address authentication??

I'd try the password/passphrase option first.. if it is a AP check your setting then don't forget to apply them to your machine..

If you've tried this already sorry for repeating it..

Let us know if this solves the problem or whether it doesn't.. we can then move on from here

I had to change my wireless hardware twice and only now that I've got the same brands is everything working properly. A previous card I had would connect for about five minutes then disconnect; on another the encryption wouldn't work with my router.

Good luck, I know how friggin' irritating this can be!

You get that when you're using DHCP and the PC can't lease an address from the DHCP server. Windows then picks a default address that may be in a completely different subnet to what your network uses, hence it is ignored by everything else.
Could it be that your router has DHCP server disabled, your previously assigned IP address carried on working because it hadn't expired, but when you rebuilt you lost the record of the assigned, unexpired address?
Run IPCONFIG from a command prompt to check what's happening. Then try IPCONFIG /RELEASE and then IPCONFIG /RENEW to see what effect it has.
Assign a fixed IP address to your PC if necessary.
