    Help ME! Monitor standby problem.

A strange problem started today on my machine when I was working on some important stuff. I have a dual display setup using two dell TFT monitors and a 9800 Pro. All of a sudden when I was working my monitors both went into standby when I was typing. I can't seem to do anything to get them out of standby. I have even tried putting in another graphics card but still get the same problem. This even happens with the PC boots? Is there anything I can do??? Lucky I have a laptop to post this here

Is there a menu button on the TFTs that brings up a OSD?

If there is and it doesn't come out of standby your monitors sound damaged somehow...

when I press the menu button, I get the following message. Your monitor is in sleep mode press the keyboard or move the mouse' The thing is, it happened to both my monitors at once so I doubt they are damaged. Could it be something to do with my motherboard?

    it could be
can you connect the monitor to your laptop?

There is a chance of a faulty componenet batch. But unlikely.

Could be lots of things, but since it still happens when the system is restarted it could be that.

Can you plug a PCI graphics card in and see if it works off that? BIOSes have been known to reset sometimes (rare due to battery death) so it may have reset to PCI rather then AGP.

When I did put in another AGP card I got to the windows loading screen but then it went back to standby.

I wikk try and look in the bios and get back to you.

hmm, how strange I put the Geforce 3 card into my machine and with one of the monitors pluged in it worked, however when I attached my second monitor it did not work. I am guessing this could be due to driver problems. Looks like I am looking for another graphics card

Very odd. Did you try to get the latest drivers and use a proper driver cleaner to remove the old ones first?

ATi have their specialist tool to remove all traces including profiles which may have been confused by the dual monitor set up.

Okay, I have taken the 9800pro out and put in an old Geforce 3 AGP card, I used the software to get rid of all the old ATi drivers and installed the nvidia ones. I have now got one monitor working I can't seem to enable the second one though. Does Gforce 3 cards support dual monitor setups?

edit: great just found out that they don't support dual monitors. Looks Like I am in the market for a new graphics card

Sounds bizzare (And a bit off topic) but i've got a 17" dell TFT here at work with the EXACT same problem..... Very odd indeed. Happened on the same day as well.
