Firewire HDD Whisky Tango Foxtrot!!!

have a problem with my Firewire HDD

when it is connected and im in windows, it is fine, if i try to shut down my computer will hang for a while then turn off, or randomly restart, depending how it feels (LOL) wondering if anyone else has ever had this?

Also boot up if the drive is on it will do the same thing. i mean the obvious thing is to not turn the device on till windows has booted and turn off before shut down .... but i dont want to do that ....

so anyone else had similar experience

I know its this drive as when i roll back to before the drive was installed, perfect boot and shutdown !!!

I have this problem with a USB drive.

It was fixed when I installed the external power connector. Not sure if its the same with firewire drives?

Well, on the drives I use (these are USB2.0) they have a small power connector, similar to the one on a CD player.

We picked up a 2A variable power supply which plugs into the main and has switchable tips to fit. GEt the right tip, put it in on the right polarity and it worked fine since.

But we still can't leave the drive in on bootup

what make is the hd caddie?....... my icybox did wierd things (corrupted drive, not getting recorgnised on bootup...etc) till i updated the firmware.
