I have 3 hdds(1 split into several partitions) and 2 cd drives. my main hd is listed drives c,d etc but the other 2 hard drives are listed behind the cd drives. How can I change them so all the hd's are listed first?

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
iirc, right click my computer, manage, disk management...
IF you just want the HDDs to appear first in My Computer, click the bar at the top so that you sort the drives by Type rather than name or even put them into groups (right click > arrange by > sort into groups).
Make sure you don't go swapping the drive paths of drives wiht programs installed!
Also, its worth noting that if you used a custom drive name, Windows generally seems to capitalize it once the drive letter is changed. You may need to rename the drive once more.
Something you must remember is that some programs (mainly older/more amateurish ones in my experience) have the drive letter which is used inbedded once installed. Therefore you may get errors when trying to run it, as the CD drive/HDD, in its eyes, has been removed and/or replaced. A reinstallation of such programs should solve the problem though

Dont do it its not worth it!
In my experience windows does not like you changing drive letters it even warns you when trying
If you disconect any of the drives for what ever reason windows kindly shuffles them all arround again
I've never had any problems with changing drive letters. I add and remove hard drives all the time. Ive got 4 running at once in one of my comuters...
And if anything goes wrong, just change the letters back.
Well, I always rename my partitions and HDDs after I install Windows, and before I install any other programs. That usually prevents problems arising. If it is a backup/data drive, you shouldn't have too many problems.

just a data drive and a music drive so should be ok.
