Question How can I change my dynamic NTL ip?

I have an NTL broadband connection through my set top box connected to my wireless rooter (INEXQ Wireless Broadband rooter) and i need to change my IP. Ive tried turning off the set top box for three days but to no effect. My Set top box only has an ethernet port so switching to USB isnt an option. Ipconfig doesnt work either.

If anyone could give me an explanation into how I could change my ip it would be greatly appreciated. If you need anymore details just ask and I could probably find out for you.

    Thankyou

But I've seen topics on this forum before of people discussing how they change their ntl ips and I know it's dynamic because my rooter wouldn't accept it as a static ip.

Why do you need it changing?
Generally having the set top box disconnected for 12 hours or more should do the trick.

I have a habit of getting banned from places. I've tried proxies but they can still trace me.

Try this or hunt through the rest of Robin Walker's site to see if there is anything.

I have a DHCP server set up already on my rooter but its my NTL ip I need to change. I get the following error when I ipconfig: the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation. If any other NTL users have any advice on how to change then it would be greatly appreciated. I have a pace cable and wireless about 2 years old. I've tried unplugging the set top box for a day but i don't know why its not working since other people with the same connection can do it like that. http://forums.hexus.net/archive/index.php/t-15346

NTL is the DHCP server for you when you are connecting, they will assign you a semi random IP but it does depend on you being off for a while etc. But as you are always using the network adapater inside the router the mac address is not going to change and its unlikely that you'll get a new IP address.

Best way to get round being banned is to not get banned in the first place but if its not your fault then try some other proxies, its your best short term chance.

Otherwise you will have to phone up and ask NTL to help you change the IP address.

So if i turned my rooter off or just put in a fake mac address then it could change? I doubt NTL would change it for me so I have a week on holiday when i could turn it off. I'm not sure what to turn off and what wires to take out. As for not getting banned the opportunity was screaming at me.

changing your mac address would result in a new ip lease, however remember that you can only change addresses once in a ~8 hour period.
swapping between usb and ethernet worked for me. just left it for a day on usb then swapped back to the nicer ethernet.

So how shall i go about changing my mac address? Just change the end digit, clone it, then restart my set top box? Also my set top box only has an ethernet port.

Uninstall the software if you installed it along with the drivers.

DO an entire clean install, if it come down to it.
