    problem mp3/pc connection

I am running win xp and have had no problems previous connecting mp3.

All of a sudden windows does not recognise, says either no drivers or mp3 malfunctioned, so I format the mp3, still not recognised. Tried on another THREE pc's, same. But what is really strange, the same has happened with both my daughters mp3's.

I am totally baffled, I have searched the web for help but have not found anything.

    Please any ideas.

Best thing to do is use a driver cleaner program or delete the USB drivers for it in System Properties, this will force it to reinstall.

I formatted the pc and one of the mp3 players, you can format it without being connected to pc, tried again, it came up that it was installing and then all of a sudden it said it didn't recognise it again.

Were do I get a driver cleaner program from?

Are these just low capacity solid state ones? Or big hard disk jobbies (5GB+) If its the latter you will need to install the drivers from the cd it will have come with.

What exactly is saying no drivers or player malfunctioned? Thats certainly not a standard windows error.

Yes they are low capacity solid state ones and don't need drivers as they are plug and play with xp.

They have all worked fine previously.

I wonder if they have got some kind of virus from the pc, but then I formatted one of them and tried again.

The message is a little pop up in the bottom right of the screen, I can try a print screen and send you a pm if you like.

They wont have a virus. I belive you that its giving you an error, was just wondering from the wording if it might be in some kind of error in a program you were using to transfer files to it.

Only thing i can think of is that they have developed a fault somehow, although it seems unlikely the same fault on all 3.

Odd question, but have you tried a new battery? And is there a USB mode on the player? (Some need to be told theyre gonna be plugged in before they work)

    the message says:

    USB devise not recognised

One of the usb devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

I have clicked the message and gone through the windows help instructions, when I go into device manager it says it is an unknown device and no drivers ar installed. I have tried to install the drivers from the disk but it won't let me it says windows is already using the best drivers.

    Please any advice.
    Thanks

No there is no usb mode on any of them. The one I am trying to solve the problem with has a rechargable battery, I have removed it and tried again with and without battery, still the same.

I had a cheapy solid state one that did exactly the same thing - ended up chucking it. You could be a little more resourceful than me and return it to where you bought it from i guess!

Well I am glad to hear someone else has experienced the same, but itn't it weird how these have all done the same thing at the same time and they are all different, not the same ages.
