Keyboard And Mouse Not Working!

Hi,

Last night i was just on the internet, and i smelt burning, and the keyboard and mouse immediately stopped working, but the computer was running fine, so i changed the mouse and keyboard to a non-wireless one to no lucky. I have looked inside and found no visible damage. I've thought of two possible solutions, but i will have to spend money on both

1. The mouse and keyboard port is broke, need a new one.
2. The motherboard is damaged.

Does anyone have any help on this, any other explanations or will i have to bring it somewhere to get fixed?

Try your "burnt" mouse and keyboard on another machine to see if they work.
Try a different mouse and keyboard on your machine to see if they work.

Try ringing a local small computer shop and asking them if they'd mind testing your keyboard out on one of their machines if you don't know anyone with a PC, but as you've writted in to the forum somehow, I would assume you do have access to another PC somewhere.

Unless it's a work one, don't test it at work if you aren't authorised to do that!

My luck!! i've found out that my keyboard and mose (mx700 desktop set) don't work, and my spare keyboard and mouse don't work !! i got my mates keyboard and mouse, and it is now working.

Though, the reciever for the mx700 set lights up, and still charges the mouse, so it must be connected to the computer and recognises it, but yet neither the mouse or keyboard respond to my computer, neither to my mates, i have re-installed the software to no joy !!

Anybody any ideas?
