Is my graphic card messed up?

Hey, this is on behalf of a mate.

    But basically..

When he loads up windows he gets these weird orange lines..
    Pic here

Are they artifacts, i told him to check the temp and idle it is at 50c which is a lil high.

But it shouldn't cause artifacts right?

Is this a graphic card problem? Driver? Has anyone had a problem like this?

That looks more like a monitor issue to me, although then it wouldnt show up screen dumps (assume thats what it is?). So my answer would be yes it is screwed.

I've had similar issues and it was borked memory (so artifacting). He isnt running a stupidly high overclock using ATItool there is he?

He hasn't overclocked that card, it used to be mine and i had no problems with it and it was overclocked. Yeah it isn't the monitor so it must be the actual graphics card. It has still got a warranty!

I'm just hoping it is a little problem and won't have to resort to an rma.

If the card was running really hot while he was playin games, that could of borked it right? But would the thermal shut down thing of saved it?

Well technically it hasnt still got a warranty since you voided it, what kind of cooling is on it? Putting a tin of canned air through it cant hurt

Stock cooler is on it now, airflow should be ok as it is in my old case (akasa eclipse) I bet he hasn't cleaned it or the filters so its full of gunk. runnin 50idle isn't good. But i guess it would be messed up? Well...yes but at the time of it messing up it wasn't overclocked!

I told him to download ati tool when he told me he had the prob so he could check the temps.
