    :edit:
Or alternatively i found this http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=358808 wont take credit for it myself. hehe

Although where it says save it as "Save Desktop" just make sure you save it as "Show Desktop" instead

    Here also explains http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=190355

hope this all gets you sorted.

Alternatively you can use Win+d to show your desktop. I'm just too lazy to move my mouse down 1700 pixels to reach the icon.

    Lightbulb

    <windows key> M

is the hot key for "Show Desktop" (in win2k anyway <win>d does nothing for me).

To add items to your quick launch (in win2k) put shortcuts or files in

    C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

The "original" Show Desktop is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

    <windoys key> E
brings up file explorer which is useful for doing all this
