    DVD Drive.

Hi, this seems like a fairly stupid question to me but one i dont know the answer to!. how do you get DVD drive to display in windows after fitting it.

Like i bought a DVD drive from ebuyer, it didnt come with any software (altho it isnt supposed to), i fitted it.. and its not "picked" up by computer. It works cause you can open/close the trey but for obvious reasons cant do anything else with it.

I dont want to reformat, so thats not really a option.

check everythin is fitted properly, just becuase the drive tray opens dosent mean much - well it means your power cable is fitted

check the jumpers on the back of the drive - master/slave, and make sure the cables are in the drive and the mobo correctly

all the ones ive fitted are fine, no drivers required

U wouldn't need drivers in XP, but I see you have Win2000. What Make is ti? I'd try on the manufacturers website for a driver. The opening and closing would work if power is connected, regardless of whether the PATA (data) cable is. You sure that is connected correctly - and the right way round?

Normally for things like this dicking about its the jumper setting. First thing to check is that the bios can see the drive, if the bios cant see it windows wont either.
