    toshiba satellite a30-931 laptop problem

    i have a laptop, today i turned it on, and after the toshiba splash screen, it powers off on its own, the orange battery light is flashing, even when plugged into mains, after 5 hours on charge, same problem, after splash screen, powers off, orange battery light flashing on and off. This might seem obvious, but i think the battery has gone. i just want a second opinion off someone if they have it, before i waste my money, incase its something otheer than a naffed battery, but i think its probably a naffed battey.

    The powercord light is blue, and is working so there is electricity going to the bettery, it just inst charging.....

    thanks

    Could be battery, but check that you didn't bang it and mash the terminals. If you can push the battery a little harder against the terminals you may find that it works. If that is it you can probably devise a fix pretty easily (or bend the terinals back in place with a screwdriver)

    another solution is one I had, a pratically new (just beyond the 6month battery warranty) lappy was haing the same problem. When I found out how much I would be robbed for a new battery I tried the following;

    Turn off ALL windows and bios power saving/management features
    Run the laptop till it basically runs out of juice (slight risk of corrupting the OS so be aware)
    Recharge battery (without laptop turned on) leaving it overnight if possible
    Power up and test
    All worked fine for me, the battery has not been a problem since, almost as good as new

    How I see it, and Im no expert, is that some how the power management features of the bios/OS/battery were reading something wrong and that the above reset them somehow

    Its a long shot but it worked for me

    Does it work with the battery out of the system? If not then you're looking at a faulty motherboard... ala...

    The Satellite Pro A30 is basically a newer version of the Satellite Pro 6100. Which if you're in the US, you can get fixed free of charge by Toshiba, however, if you're in the UK Toshiba would want £500+ to replace the main system board.
