    USB 2 hub prob help

I have a usb 2 combo hub(with a card reader in same unit as 3 port hub) which was originally bought from ebay.
No name on hub of manufacturer.
Keeps connecting and disconnecting whatever is connected to it. Windows update does not search for a driver for it.

Thought a driver update would fix it but don't know if there is a universal driver that would work. XP keeps saying usb device is not recognised but sometimes it is ok and works.

    help!
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Is it the type that plugs into an existing USB port?

Also, what type of PSU are you using?

Yes it does plug into an existing usb port. PSU is std 450watt. I know it's not the PSU though as I plugged my own hub into my parents pc(another unamed one I got at ebuyer). It worked fine.

Sounds like the hub is a duffer then.

If you paid a lot for it, return it (although I'm not sure about ebay returns!)

Alternatively, have some fun by opening it up and having a go at repairing it yourself.

Does the hub have its own power supply? I had similar problems with a four-port Belkin hub a couple of years ago when I tried to use it without its power supply plugged in - the instructions said it should work OK that way, drawing power from the computer, but it didn't. When I plugged the power supply in it worked fine.
