    Help with Graphics Problems

    Hi all

Wondering if someone could help me as I'm struggling to find out what could be the cause of these problems. As you can see from my system specs I have two 7900GTX cards in SLi. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the graphics problems shown in the screenshots? I've even been on to BFG technical support and they are struggling to find an answer, it's driving me nuts! I've tried reinstalling Windows and just putting the basics on, still the same. It also crashes to desktop now and again, just to keep me on my toes!

    HELP PLEASE!

Hi, yes I've done that. Even re installed windows and put the 84.21 drivers back on. It's not a driver problem, can't be.

    DirectX 9c comes with CoD2.

Have you overclocked your graphics cards? Maybe gone too far?

is your PSU up to the task? is heat an issue? try a desk fan blowing into the open case and see if it still does it. on your motherboard, does it auto select the settings for the pci-e slots or do you have to change any jumpers etc? sli bridge on preoperly? both power leads to the cards on securely? cards definately seated in the slots right? cleaned out any old drivers?

Hi again, Thanks for all the swift replies.

The cards come slightly overclocked as they are BFG cards, however, I have not overclocked any further.

Heat is not an issue as I've been monitoring this in Everest and my case is up to the job of shifting heat. My PSU is FSP Epsilon 700W with 85% efficiency and I've checked the +12V rails, no variances worthy of note there either. I'll try taking the cards out and pushing them back in, it never occurred to me to try the SLi bridge either, I'll check these out and report back.

I would try to monitor the temperature and see if it is ridiculosly high. I know I've had problems with my 9800 pro after long periods of use and the heatsink is too hot to touch. If your graphics card if too hot that would explain your problems. Also have you tries the card individually. If they both work by themselves then you know that your problem is with the SLI part of the system.

Best of luck finding the problem.

Hi again all, got some new screenshots for you today, this is after I've done everything that was suggested in your previous posts. I'm at a loose end now, it's driving me insane!

have u tried disabling SLI and playin in single card mode, I know its not what u paid for but lets try eliminating SLI first, which in itself can be hit and miss, some games do not like it too much. If u loose the problem swap the cards to make sure one is not faulty. If the problem persists consider memory, try running a single dimm. Let us know how u get on

I've got exactly the same with a Sapphire 9600 Pro on an old machine at my g/fs place.
I get the problem in FarCry (patched to latest).
It's only a 1.2 Athlon clocked to 1.4 and the gfx ram etc are as stock nothing tweeked.
I've got latest drivers etc. I would also be interested if anyone has any ideas.....

To the original poster- have you connected the additional SLI power molex on the motherboard to your PSU, and the power connectors on both of the VGA cards as well.

If temperatures aren't an issue, and you are confident that your PSU is up to the job, try running it with each card singly. It could well be that one of the cards is knackered, and needs to be RMA'd.

Edit: You might want to try underclocking the cards by 100MHz or so (both RAM and GPU core) to see if that helps. I think I read about others having problems with 7900GTX cards over at PcPer forums. Underclocking them seemed to help stability, but obviously isn't an ideal fix.

I've got a single BFG 7900GTX and have exactly the same problem. I've worked out what it is though - the memory on my GPU doesn't like being run at 820(x2).

If I install coolbits and knock it back down to 750(x2) then it passes the overclock (well underclock) test and games run without corruption. If I try between 750 and the 820 the memory's supposed to work at, then everything goes screwy again.

I assume the problem is either duff memory, or maybe the heatsink on the card isn't attached to the memory properly. Anyway, I've contact BFG about it and am now just waiting for them to get around to sending me an RMA number...
