    Dilema.

I'm looking to go dual core in september as I really would like the extra multi-tasking capabilities.

    1) Go for the 939 4600 (should be £170 after price drops) and crossfire 580 board.

    2) Go for conroe, in which case I will need to sell mobo/ram/cpu where as with option one I will only need the cpu and motherboard.

From personal experience, i love the intel platform. By that i mean specifically the reliability of the chipsets, historically.
I have an Opteron now which is very nice indeed, but the ALi chipset is a bit poop compared to the stability of the 865 chipset i had for my P4. If only AMD made good chipsets....

Now that intel have this supposed fantastic processor, there really shouldnt be a decision in my book.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

If you have the money go Conroe, but then if you did have the money you would go conroe anyway, if you see what I mean.
I'm in the same dilemma albeit with a S939 system and with the extra annoyance that the cache is being reduced on the AMD dual cores from 1 mb to 512kb.
How long will AMD make S939 dual cores ?

Personally I will save until I can afford conroe, dual core AMD performance gains seem pretty minimal over single cores. At least with conroe you should get a decent performance gain for your money.
