Windows wants me to remove my Windows hard drive...

I've just built a new system and it seems to be running fine, except for some reason I get the 'Safely remove hardware' icon in my system tray. It lists both my hard drives, one of which obviously contains Windows!

Its not a critical problem, but it is annoying me. Anyone know how to stop it doing this and/or what may be the cause? They're both SATA drives (a Raptor and a Caviar) on an ASUS M2N32 AM2 mobo.

    Cheers.

Same for me on my Asus system (001) - although it's never actually bothered me. SATA drives are hot swappable hence the icon and the feature can be quite useful for some drives. My advice is to stop worrying about it and enjoy life lol

It's to do with the drivers. nVidia ones allow the drives to be hot-swapped whereas the standard MS ones do not.

There is an alternative - you could always remove the "unplug hardware" icon by selecting "always hide" in the WinXP Taskbar options.

It won't let you safely remove your system drive.
I can't find a method of fully removing the option, but it isn't anything to worry about!

    That's what I do too.

run MS IDE drivers instead of the nVidia SW IDE (unless you're running RAID in which case you're stuck with it).
