internet explorer loading problems please help!!

My Windows Internet Explorer is having trouble opening and I was wondering if anyone can help me out here. When I click on the Internet Explorer shortcut it starts to open up my home page window, but all of a sudden the page suddenly closes for no apparent reason. I just started having this problem today and i'm not sure what's causing it. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the file ext that's associated with Internet Explorer but I'm not sure of this. If anyone can help me out on this I'd really appreciate it. I'm running Windows XP home edition and IE 6.0 (I think) by the way. Thank you!

Out of curiosity, if you goto Start/Run and type the address, does it work ok?

I guess install all the updates for IE and XP - check for adware etc using Spybot or the likes - scan for viruses...

restart

try again.

if stil no luck turn it off, leave it an hour, come back, see if it works. if not, install firefox

Yep, and also reset web setting and detailed setting in internet option.
