    Cool (literally) !

One of the best pastes is Arctic Silver (IIRC), it's a very thin paste, which you need to smear all over the surface of the CPU top, then apply the cooler. Make sure you have cleaned every last trace of the old stuff first, use alcohol if it's tricky. I've done it several times and my temps are good now, although my ambient is always quite high.

    Everest rox eh ? :-)
    Cheers, David

yeh everest is good, but the mobo could be at fault, check the BIOS hardware monitor & see if that tells another temp, if it still reads high, then i suggest sticking your hand on the heatsink while the PC is running to see if it feels hot. If you can't hold your hand on it for more than a few seconds, it would indicate a high temp, it should feel lukewarm to warm at best if its running ok, and you should be able to keep your hand on it all day without it burning you.

Which Pentium 4, as if that's a Prescott, there's no way on earth it's going to be even close to 25c on air cooling... haven't even seen my Pentium 4 2.4c running at 25c when underclocked...

I'd suggest Everest is lying. Your BIOS still sounds a touch optimistic, but while they're still relatively erroneous, they're usually a better guide than software.

Are you on your private jet shuttling between Florida and Helsinki? 70C is too hot and 25C is way too cool. What does the reading say inside bios?(health monitor?) I think that one is most accurate. Or use gigabyte monitoring tool.

BIOS PC Health Status says: - Current System Temp 33C
    - Current CPU Temp 30C

All i know is that its a 478 socket...btw everest says right now at about...50 mins after startup: 29C Cpu Temp, 37C HD and 36C Motherboard

I only have 2 games on my pc and one of them crashes...before i put the paste on, it would crash with a blank bsod then restart 9/10 times and the other 1/10 would be just an error from windows saying it needs to close.

But ever since i put the paste on, it hasnt restarted with a bsod screen once but it still gives errors from windows and its really annoying me. Anyone know how to fix??

Q-Tec make a 650W PSU that can pull about 400W (while glowing green and killing small puppies), so don't read much into the wattage. What is the PSU? If it's just some random cheapy, then you'll be wanting to replace it, whether it's causing the issues or not.

yeh i think its made by omni so yeh...its the power supply yeh?

Is it true that to find the actual power of the power supply you multiple the Amps of the +12v output or something?? If thats the case then my psu is only 12Vx13A=156W...is that how it works??

Temp looks ok then. If it's PSU problem I think you'll get instant reboot without getting any errors....but I maybe wrong. What does blue screen say?

Its a blank bsod. But i never saw that bsod when i used my crt monitor (couldnt see because it takes a while for the screen to display, but by the time the screen was ready to display the bsod had already gone) but now i use my lcd and i see the bsod flash blank and then reboot straight away...

Well then I suspect PSU like other posters, get yourself a good quality PSU with solid 12V amps, if I remember correctly your GC is Radeon 9600pro, right? so you probably won't need too much wattage, I think 350-400w is more than sufficient, just make sure you stick to well known brand, just avoid those cheap ones with extremely high wattage. I think you can get decent one off Scan for around 20-25 quid. But if you still get error after getting new PSU, I suspect it's a bad memory, usually it's very difficult to tell if it's bad PSU or bad memory since symptoms you get are very similar, you have to rule out one by one I'm afraid.

Im pretty sure is not bad memory because ive tried both 512 mb sticks individually and ive had no luck so it must be the psu. Anyways ive picked up a psu for $60 Aussie dollars thats has 500W and ill see how i go. Ill bring some results along in a few days time.

Ok, so it must be a bad PSU. Anyway, good luck
