Seperate software such as Nero works fine with it (NEC DVDRW) but Windows itself just doesn't seem to realise it's a writer, the drive doesn't even have a 'Recording' tab in Properties... help!
Much-o thanks in advance...o...
sounds like an odd error, have u tried removing the optical drive from device manager and rebooting? I believe there is a registry key somewhere that sets this behaviour, trying to dig it out now
found instructions on the Microsoft site that addresses this problem, ignore that it states CD instead of DVD, thats just a hangup from the old tech as my DVDRW volume shows up under here.
WARNING - do this at ur own risk and follow instructions very carefully, u will be modifying ur registry so read 4 times, delete an entry once

The registry edit seems to have fixed the problem, 'DVD-RW (D:\)' has appeared in Send To shell etc., for some reason the autoplay window still doesn't appear when I insert a blank CD or DVD but hey, it's all good, I don't use Windows CD Writing Wizard anyway. Thanks a lot.
use tweakui to get autorun back easily
