Using another email address with BT Broadband

I want to use my existing POP3 email (@flyer.co.uk) using my BT Broadband connection. If I use mail.flyer.co.uk as the SMTP I can receive but cannot send mail. I thought I could use mail.btinternet.com as the SMTP but this still doesn't work.

    Does anyone know a workaround?

I ran into problems was a hosting provider that used Spamhaus (or something like that) and BT. The router would often get a black listed IP address when it connected as BT are completely dynamic IPs. Took me ages to work out what was going on.

Thanks guys but I'm completely lost and am not sure what to try next. So what can I do to send emails.

The outbound (SMTP) server for my account is mail.flyer.co.uk - same as POP3

I can't use mail.btinternet.com to send - is there a reason why? With all other ISPs I can usually use the ISPs SMTP server to send mail of any email account.. but not BT for some reason

BT requires authorisation as I recall - its not allowed/dissaowedvia network.

Mail bt broadband and ask them for their requirements of using the smtp server.

Maybe better than us making random guesses.
    It is Inevitable.....

certain BT Broadband products wouldn't even give you access via their SMTP server a few years ago. ( you where expected to use webmail )

Its most likely ( and hopefully ) changed since then , so I'd advice giving their tech support a bell ( or check their site )

But obviously you'll be using the BTbroadband SMTP server to send outgoing mail, so in the account properties in OE you'd have:
    Incoming mail: mail.flyer.co.uk
    Outgoing mail: mail.btinternet.com

The account name and password below should be for your flyer.co.uk account. Below that, you'll see a tick box for "My server requires authentication" which should be ticked. Click the settings button next to this and then tick the "Log on using" button. Under Account name and Password here, you'll need the details from your BT account. So far as I am aware, BT don't use SPA. OK, or OK and Apply everything, then try.

Of course, if that's how you've already got it set up, then that was absolutely NO help whatsoever....

    Cable...if you can, you should...

BT *might* be looking at the email address for the POP account as it is being sent and rejecting it because it is no a BT address. I'm sure i've seen this when i was on BTOpenworld a few years ago.
