    Windows Vista Upgrade Question

I know this has been asked before but I need clarification now that Vista is soon to be released.

If I buy the Retail UPGRADE version of Vista what is the situation if I want to upgrade my machine?

Jury is still out on this. I have a feeling that if you go from OEM > Retail Upgrade, it's the software that has been upgraded and not the license, and thus it's still OEM. However, it might have changed so don't quote me on that.

I've just ordered a retail Vista to go over my OEM XP so I hope I'm wrong!!

the upgrade license states it is only valid under the terms of the upgraded os

i.e. if you have xp retail and upgrade vista, then you can do anything with vista

if you have xp oem and upgrade vista, then vista is locked to that motherboard

What about if I buy Vista Ultimate Upgrade? I've been reading that there may not be the same restrictions on the ultimate version?

How about if I buy the full RETAIL Vista? What's the deal with upgrades then?

ultimate has exactly the same restrictions as the other versions

as for retail vista, standard rules apply (can be transferred between as many machines as you like)
