    exacltly..

its only a heap old AMD 64 proccessor running a ATI 9550 which should be super cheap.

only problem is i never built a PC although i have a reasonably ok idea of how to do it, it was a shop PC so there are no Part manuals and im sure itl be alot harder to fit a MOBO to a PC thats already build so i rekon ill fully take it down and up again to go step by step

or would leaving everything in place work and just rmoving the mobo work as its the trickyest case to undo in the plantet probly as it has like 500 screws from what i remember lol

as for the 21 hours we usually swap over alot so its not 21 hours striahgt lol as this laptop is no good for games.
£400 to swap a motherboard over?, you need to ask what else has fried, eg CPU, memory and atleast have all your components tested for damage. Check the VGA card and PSU a fault within the PSU could have caused this to happen.

TBH maybe look at an upgrade for that price

i know i was thinking that but he said its all ok..

yeh i know it needs a bit of an upgrade, i could probably go C2D and new Card or that mabye even add that 512 ram to get 1gb

what annoyes me is it was connected to a Belkin surge protector that obviosly didnt work too good.

also would the mobo wtill have its LED on if its fried? sureley not..

Not always the case but I would get a second opinion i this case as £400 is a lot to get it FIXED you could get a good upgrade for that price, see what they say and if its the case the mobo is fried then I would want a full upgrade of CPU , Memory and Motherboard for £400 as why if you had to spend that much would you pay to have products replaced with already old technology, you might as well spend a little extra and get someone build you a new tower

I would guess that the company you took it to for repair are not really a laptop repair company and have quoted you £400 to put you off having it repaired in the hope that you will just buy a new one.

I would suggest finding a company who specialise in Laptop repairs, preferably on a no fix, no fee basis.

A few companies I know who offer this service are RL Supplies on 01923 896996 and Mr.Computer on 01727 834904. I am sure if you search google for laptop repairs you will find plenty more

If its a ready built machine then its 99% right that the PSU is gheyed.

Look on the side of the unit and tell us what it is.

Thats the one that seems to be alot safer as it looks to be the same mobo as i have discovered that there are 2 versions and this one seems right but there is also a bargain one that i came across here:

It isnt at all hard, dont get worried. Just set up a nice place not crampt with some decent air (I get boiling building a pc)
Swapping out the Mobo shouldnt be hard. Just take everything out (Dont have to take drives +HDD out, unless needed) Unscrew the motherboard, take it out. Gently place the new one one the existing Standoffs (If its same mobo) then screw it back in, and replace all parts you took out.

Plug cables in and power up

P.S- Those Belkin power surge protectors are extremely good. Are you sure it isnt the powersupply itself? As putting a new board in and it ends up getting fried wont be nice :/

Yeh im not too worried about hanging it it shouldnt be difficult.

Yes thats waht im kinda annoyed about and unsure over the whole thing as the repair man said the PSU is fine and i would have never have thought it would be a Power surge myself as wouldnt have that also have ruined the Monitor (power cable splits to both) and the fax + printer that was plugged into the same adapter?
