    installing a dual 2 core

im thinking about getting the e6300 dual 2 core processor as an upgrade for my celeron 3.2 but the fan than is being used on the processor in like a long pipe with a fan at the bottom, the pipe points directly to a vent inside the case to let the air out.

but i want to no is it best to use the fan that come with the dual 2 core or is it alright to use the one that is being used now.

also im thinking about adding a second hard drive but the one ive got now is a SATA drive, is it ok to use an IDE as well as a SATA or do they have to be the same.

first you need to ensure that you will be able to use a core 2 duo with your motherboard. find out your motherboard manufacturer and model number and do a search

I presume your pipe thing is a duct that looks something similar to the one above?

It's probably best to find out some more info on the specs and components your PC uses, ideally the motherboard and the cooler. Upgrading to a C"d may be more expensive than you think...

    Hope it goes well

Provided your motherboard supports the Core2Duo, I would think it would be best to use the Heatsink/Fan that comes with the processor as you do not know if your existing heatsink is up to the job. If you want something a bit better you can get better coolers from Xalman or Arctic Cooling

You're better using the core 2 duo fan - it's very good and the duct will still allow it to draw in air from outside the case.

You can mix SATA and IDE drives. You just have to be careful when doing things like windows installs, as XP looks for IDE to install to out of preference

Well my advice is not to mix sata and IDE hard drives only because some people have problems and some don't, so there is no 100% guarantee that they will work together on every motherboard.

I'm an unlucky one (mixing sata and ide) on an old Asus A7N8x deluxe mk 1

I've never had a prob mixing IDE & SATA on any machine I've built. But that's not to say it never happens. Finding out is part of the fun

I never had problems mixing PATA and SATA (SATA is still IDE) until I moved to a 965-based mobo. Due its lack of native PATA support connectivity is supplied by a JMicron controller which proved no end of problems initially, fortunately I am now totally SATA including my optical drive
