RAM Timings Do not seem correct

    Hey guys,

In addition to this post, there is another one Here
I'm confused about why my GeiL 2gb pc6400 seems to be at 5-5-5-18, 400mhz (800mhz) according to CPU-Z and am hoping you can help. This RAM is stated to run at 4-4-4-12 when running at 800mhz, so whats going on?

The FSB: Dram is 2:3 but can't seem to change it. I went into the jumper free config and set the DRAM freq to DDR2 800mhz, the system turned off and booted back up and still 2:3 ratio, 5-5-5-18.

All Voltages are set to "auto" in the BIOS

    System Spec:
    intel E6600
    Artic freezer pro 7
Asus P5B deluxe (default drivers and stuff whats on the cd basically)
    Sapphire x1950xt 256mb
    2x 1gb GeiL PC2 6400 4-4-4-12
    500GB western Digital
    430watt Antec NeoHE
    LG 915ft Plus
Windows XP SP2 installed - not with the extra *** updates though

    Thanks in advance.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know on a ds4 you have to press ctrl+f1 and that brings up a menu in the BIOS. On my asus there is a option where it saies spd memory timings I think set it to disabled and a menu should come up. Set the timings and save and exit.

yeah might be an idea to set the timings manually within the bios, sometimes it doesnt set them properly if left on auto, also sometimes u need to up the voltage but I would check around before u play with that side of things

Im running on an nvidia platform (evga 680i and 8800gtx) and i had the same problem. I just went into nTune, and manually changed the timings....

Dunno if this will help you though..

ok, I got the timings up manually.
Do I need to leave the DRAM write recovery time and DRAM TRFC as they are?

If the Geil memory is anything like the Corsair Memory I have then it is advertised at 4-4-4-12 and it will actually run at that but not unless you either manually enter the timings (leaving the rest at default) or have a motherboard that can use the new method of detecting memory capabilities - the name of which escapes me for now (effectively it is SPD version 2). My memory is detected as 5-5-5-18 by SPD but if my motherboard had the new way of detecting it would pick it up as 4-4-4-12 automatically.

    Hope that makes sense.

PS Corsair recommend upping the voltage from 1.8V to 2.1v to run at 4-4-4-12 - you might want to check if geil have any similar recommendations.
