Acronyms you pronounce like words, initialisms you just pronounce the individual letters. Like NASA vs PSU. But yeah the acronym NASA I guess is just an initialism if you called it 'N' 'A' 'S' 'A'.

Understood, I just was wondering if initialisms come under the umbrella of acronyms.

Decided to Google it and of course, the umbrella terms I want here is abbreviations. Initialisms are a sub-division of abbreviations not of acronyms.

If the first letter of each word makes up another word, e.g. Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), it's an acronym. If it doesn't make a pronounceable word, like PSU, it's an initialism
